| The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) has reaffirmed the Grid Access Charge (GAC) for residential solar customers connected to APS, a nominal fixed fee between $2 and $3 per month, to recover costs associated with serving customers who generate their own electricity. In utility-scale solar news, Salt River Project (SRP) has announced the completion of the 200-megawatt Brittlebush Solar Park near Coolidge, Arizona, in partnership with Meta. Additionally, SRP has increased its commitment to the CO Bar Solar project, now planning to purchase more power from this massive solar facility north of Flagstaff, which is expected to be operational in phases over the course of 2025. Furthermore, the state offers an Energy Equipment Property Tax Exemption, ensuring that the added value from solar installations does not increase property taxes, and a Solar Equipment Sales Tax Exemption, eliminating sales tax on the retail sale and installation of solar energy devices. Despite the progress, debates continue over policies affecting solar customers. The ACC’s decision to uphold the GAC has been met with criticism from solar advocates, who argue that it discourages investments in rooftop solar. As Arizona’s solar landscape evolves, the combination of supportive policies, innovative technology, and public enthusiasm promises a bright future for clean energy in the Grand Canyon State. |
