Arizona witnessed a massive heatwave this summer with the valley experiencing a record-breaking 20+ days of temperatures reaching over 110 degrees. Luckily, areas like Flagstaff offer a much needed relief from this! However, having reliable power throughout all of Arizona is not something everyone can say they have. This is especially noticeable in the long summer months and once again in the dead of winter.
The N.C. Clean Energy Technology Center has just released its findings from Q2 of this year on what efforts states are putting into making solar more available to their residents. Although Arizona did not reach the top level, a considerable amount of work has been put forth these past several months with more to be done. The big items that were being looked at were “(1) addressing equity issues through distributed solar program and rate design, (2) states developing new iterations of their community solar programs and (3) modifying treatment of monthly net excess generation from customer-generators.”
As more and more electric vehicles are put on the road, our power grid is going to be put to the test. Having access to reliable power that isn’t necessarily connected to the grid and done specifically through solar is becoming more necessary. By monitoring how much is being done to make it more accessible, we can help to keep policymakers accountable so more people have access to the reliable electricity they need.
