When a homeowner is looking to add solar to their roof, we will do a shade analysis to make sure that the amount of sunlight hitting the rooftop is sufficient for the installation to make sense financially. One major issue we can encounter is often a tree covering the roof which then provides shading, therefore blocking the sunlight. The first go to solution is simply trimming the tree back. Of course, keep in mind that a good majority of those that are investing in solar have an environmentally friendly mindset.
For those that would like to add more greenery to their property as opposed to reduce it while still taking advantage of solar, you can do so while still being conscious of the power you are trying to produce. There are some things to consider when choosing plants and most importantly trees that you are planning to plant. These items will be things like leaf size, maximum height, what is native to northern Arizona, etc. We also want to avoid placing these new plants too close to the solar array to limit any coverage of your panels.
